Evolutionary Algorithms: Creative Applications in the Early Design Phase

In recent years, the complexity of architecture and urban design has increased due to the growing need to address environmental, social, and economic factors simultaneously. Designers often produce a limited number of solutions within tight time frames, addressing some issues while neglecting others. Evolutionary algorithms (EAs), a subset of artificial intelligence (AI), have emerged as powerful tools that can revolutionize how we approach urban design and architecture. While these algorithms are commonly used for optimization and problem-solving, their ability to inspire and generate innovative design solutions should be noted. Therefore, this research aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice by developing a framework that enables designers to utilize EAs as a creative tool in the early design process of urban design and architecture.
